Guacamole Papito

Elote Asado

Sopa Azteca

Bajataco (Baja Style Rock Cod Taco)

Carnitas de Pato (Duck Confit Taco)

Churros with Chocolate Sauce

Leave it to the culinary minds at the Chez Papa group to completely change my mind about Mexican food. It turned this non-believer into a believer. I'm not a very good California girl. I hardly ever eat Mexican food. Even when I'm in Mexico, I just ordered all my seafood grilled with butter. Then there is Papito. Organic Mexican cuisine with just a hint of French influence. Duck confit taco anyone?

Guacamole Papito - avocado, serrano peppers, cilantro, lime, queso fresco and jitomate with fresh tortilla chips. Fresh and ripe avocado, how can you go wrong with that?

The Elote Asado was my favorite of the night. Grilled corn with mexican mayo, homemade chili salt, lime, and queso cotija. They are served on a fork so it's not too messy to eat. Papito layered the cotija thick so it's creamy and tangy with just a hint of spice.

Sopa Aztec - The BEST soup I have ever had.

Carnitas de pato - Duck confit carnitas, housemade pickles, habanero peppers, mint and tamarind sauce on La Palma organic corn tortillas. As soon as they set the dish down, the aroma already had me salivating. The duck is full of flavors and juices are overflowing. I love the touch of tamarind sauce that gives it even more moisture.

Bajataco - Negra modelo batter, deep fried rock cod, chipotle remoulade and purple cabbage slaw on La Palma organic corn tortillas. The last time I had such good baja style fish taco was in Cabo ove the summer. You can taste the freshness of the cod in every single bite. The Negra modelo batter stayed crunchy even under the chipotle remoulade. The purple cabbage slaw and chipotle remoulade went exceptionally well with the deep fried cod.

We ended the meal with churros with chocolate dipping sauce. I never knew churros can taste this good. Crunchy, sugary, and cinnamony, it went surprisingly well with the chocolate sauce. I will never look at churros the same again.

The setting is intimate and the staff is welcoming. Our gorgeous waitress Mina along with the handsome Frenchman never skipped a beat in our meal, looking over us and bringing us anything we needed.
